Google Tuesdays Extra: Google PhoneBook?

So I was trying to get some sleep and someone whose number I didn’t recognize showed up on my cell phone.

I got up, I went to my Gmail account and typed it in. Dang. Nothin.

Most people who have my number know that they need to schedule a time with me in advance, on account of my weird schedule. So I was hoping I didn’t forget anyone. I took out the dashes and searched again, but this time I hit the wrong button – next to the “Search Mail” button is one called “search Web”.

And you want to see something weird? It’s called Google PhoneBook -Try it for this fictional number: 0000000000.

It’s no any big secret or anything and it’s documented on the web search feature page. It’s just something I’ve overlooked and know I haven’t spoken about yet. It’s really spooky too.

Google Tuesdays : Google News and Press Releases

Apparently the word is out – if you want people to pay attention to you, distribute a press release that mentions Google.

And yeah, from experience, I can tell you that talking about Google will get you exposure. Google Tuesdays is easily the busiest day at my site except for Sundays.

But is a Google mention – epseically a gratuitous one – the best course of action for every site?

I say no.

Google Tuesdays : Jennie’s Question on Blogger and Google

In a nutshell, Jennie wanted to know whether having a blog created by Blogger could help her get spidered by the Googlebot, given that Blogger is owned by Google.

: Find out what I told her.

The answer is a little cryptic, because once people figure this out, everyone will be trying to do it this way. But I did give her a huge clue to the “open secret” that a little bit of common sense can be figured out by most people who know a little SEO basics …

(For those of you who have my RSS books, flip to the Appendix of the main manual, where I basically spell it out to you. See the section on Blogger, and then the one on Rush Hours.)

Google Tuesdays: Google TV?

An article at Search Engine Lowdown tell us that there may soon be A Search Engine for your Television.

They link to a loooong article at CNET and give the following take on Google:

“Google’s project for TV search is ultra-secretive; only a handful of broadcast executives have seen it demonstrated so far. To build the service, the company is recording live TV shows and indexing the related closed-caption text of the programming. It uses the text to identify themes, concepts and relevant keywords for video so they can be triggers for searching.”

Google Tuesday!

Hey there Ladies and Gents!

It’s my favorite news day of the week, Google Tuesday. I’ve got a lot of news stories and information, coupled at times with my own wild theories and speculation, all about Google and Google related things.

This is the time of year I love the most. I get to start Christmas shopping! Yay!

I love this time of year, but I have one problem.

I hate malls. I want to do all my shopping online. so if you sell unique Christmas gifts, why not give me a hand? Read my Christmas list and if you have a unique gift that you sell at your site that might be appropriate, post a reply.

Other people read our forum posts, so you might get a few more orders from your fellow members.

Thanks a bunch!

Free Traffic Tips : Money Mondays : Holiday Season Sales

Last week I wrote a blog entry that I turned into an article, about how to make sales during the holiday season if you sell intangibles on your web site, such as ebooks, downloadable software, and services.

Here’s Part Two of How A Change in Perspective Can Help You Make More Holiday Season Sales: “Using the Subscription Site Model to Increase Sales”. It is a little longer than a regular article, so I’ve compiled it into a PDF file you can download for further use.

Part Three of this article will be out sometime this week, It’s called “3 Places to Find Customers Who’ll Come to Your Site by Tomorrow” and in it, I reveal some of the tips that are going in my next mini-book. Among other things, it reveals how I am able to convert up to 50% of the traffic to certain pages of my site.

Thanks for stopping by – see you back here on Google Tuesdays.

Free Traffic Tips: Non-Profit Sundays

Thank you to everyone who made a link or a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s hospital last week.

This week the spotlight is on, Support Shriners Hospitals for Children. They accept donations in any amount – so if you only have a dollar to spare, think about sharing it with Shriners Hospital.

If you or your organization cannot make a donation, you can always add a link to them on your site or in your ezine. You never know who will see it, and give the little bit that could help someone. See you on Monday Mondays.
