Hey, You're New Here! We love new people.
It would be great seeing you back again, so please subscribe by RSS feed, or get updates by email, before you forget!
So I was trying to get some sleep and someone whose number I didn’t recognize showed up on my cell phone.
I got up, I went to my Gmail account and typed it in. Dang. Nothin.
Most people who have my number know that they need to schedule a time with me in advance, on account of my weird schedule. So I was hoping I didn’t forget anyone. I took out the dashes and searched again, but this time I hit the wrong button - next to the “Search Mail” button is one called “search Web”.
And you want to see something weird? It’s called Google PhoneBook -Try it for this fictional number: 0000000000.
It’s no any big secret or anything and it’s documented on the web search feature page. It’s just something I’ve overlooked and know I haven’t spoken about yet. It’s really spooky too.
I mean I knew I could track packages and airline flights with Google. I knew I could shop and find old college and high school buddies.
But phone numbers with residential stree addys? *Shivers*.
But don;t panic though. They’ll remove you if you ask.
Mr. Bell, in Florida, I’m having a cat nap. Please email me if you’d like to schedule a time to talk.

Apparently the word is out - if you want people to pay attention to you, distribute a press release that mentions Google.
And yeah, from experience, I can tell you that talking about Google will get you exposure. Google Tuesdays is easily the busiest day at my site except for Sundays.
But is a Google mention - epseically a gratuitous one - the best course of action for every site?
I say no.
Especially since it’s not the Only course of action. Especially since old pages that are available in the Internet Archives , as well as current pages of your site, are admissible in court. So if you say something that’s not true, or tested, in the long run, you may be shooting yourself in the foot.
Sure, you can put together some tools that will help you release an optimized press release, and submit it for distribution free at PRWeb.com. Not only could your press release appear on hundreds of sites, through the combined power of traditional press, and PRWeb’s RSS Feeds, which are available for free display on any site, you could actually bring targeted visitors to your site.
Not a bad thing, not an expensive thing. Not at all. If it’s appropriate for your site, it’s worth the trouble.
But is it the only way to get Google-related exposure, or for that matter the best way?
Not for most sites.
A better way would be to get exposure that informs your target audience, establishes you as an expert in your field, and pulls targeted visitors through a system at your site that gives you the chance to contact them over and over again at their request. Then you have another course of action if they aren’t part of the typical 1.5% of visitors who will buy your products on impulse.
You can follow up with them.
So how do you do this? What is this mysterious system?
Well first, let me ask you this. If you set up a Yahoo News Alert, GoogleAlert.com, or Google.com News Alert, to email you every time Google is mentioned, is it more likely that you’re looking for a news item about Google, or a news item that just mentions Google to get your attention?
Of course, you are probably studying Google, Google stock, or some other Google-related item. So that item probably won’t interest you. You’ll probably click on it out of curiousity, if at all, then click away. Great for them if they’re just looking for additional page displays.
Not the best technique to sell their products or services.
Here’s another question for you - what’s better than getting exposure because you mentioned Google?
The answer: Getting in Google News and Yahoo News (and by extension, other news sites or publications) for something that has to do with your site, products or a topic your target audience is interested in. That’s the kind of Google exposure you want. Now instead of a bunch of one-click visitors, you have a set of interested potential buyers.
So, again, how in the world do you figure out how to accomplish this neat trick?
People keep asking me, so I’m putting together a report on that. If you want to know the instant it is released, subscribe to the newsletter by sending any blank email to ftdsecrets-aubscribe@topica.com or just watch this spot . And I’ll be happy to let you know all the steps I’ve use to do this repeatedly for a year now. Just give me a chance to transcribe my process into concrete how-to steps that even a young child could follow.
In the meantime, read the following article for a hint on one way to do this.
That’s it for Google Tuesdays. I may have more in a few hours, or I may go to sleep. Kinda depends on how much news there is that’s worth printing…

In a nutshell, Jennie wanted to know whether having a blog created by Blogger could help her get spidered by the Googlebot, given that Blogger is owned by Google.
The answer is a little cryptic, because once people figure this out, everyone will be trying to do it this way. But I did give her a huge clue to the “open secret” that a little bit of common sense can be figured out by most people who know a little SEO basics …
(For those of you who have my RSS books, flip to the Appendix of the main manual, where I basically spell it out to you. See the section on Blogger, and then the one on Rush Hours.)

An article at Search Engine Lowdown tell us that there may soon be A Search Engine for your Television.
They link to a loooong article at CNET and give the following take on Google:
“Google’s project for TV search is ultra-secretive; only a handful of broadcast executives have seen it demonstrated so far. To build the service, the company is recording live TV shows and indexing the related closed-caption text of the programming. It uses the text to identify themes, concepts and relevant keywords for video so they can be triggers for searching.”
