Hey, You're New Here! We love new people.
It would be great seeing you back again, so please subscribe by RSS feed, or get updates by email, before you forget!
I put off Search Engine Day when I saw the rumors about Google Base flying around the Net this past Monday evening and Tuesday. Here’s a synopsis of some of the posts to blogs and other coverage that I saw, ending with confirmation on the news from Google’s Blog.
The Search Engine Herald: the news of search: “Google allowed yesterday a limited access to it’s Google Base homepage (Screenshot), and rumors started spreading around as to it’s purpose.” Go to the post to access the screenshot.
When I went to the page from that post, here’s the description I saw on the page that I was briefly able to access.
“Post your items on Google.
Google Base is Google’s database into which you can add all types of content. We’ll host your content and make it searchable online for free.
Examples of items you can find in Google Base:
• Description of your party planning service
• Articles on current events from your website
• Listing of your used car for sale
• Database of protein structures
You can describe any item you post with attributes, which will help people find it when they search Google Base. In fact, based on the relevance of your items, they may also be included in the main Google search index and other Google products like Froogle and Google Local.”
Here’s the link I went to - it probably won’t be available, so here’s a screenshot.
But what is it a screenshot of? What is Google Base going to do?
Here’s what Blog Herald said in an article called Blogcritics.org: Breaking News: Google To Launch Google Base on the 25th: “Google will launch a new open source database called Google Base, according to a thread at Search Engine Watch (screenshot available here). According to the Google Base main page, Google will allow users to upload content information into their database and allow users to search for information in Google’s database.” (You’ll have to click through to their site to access the screenshot - I don’t want to take up anyone else’s bandwidth by linking directly from here.
By the end of the day, Google had given confirmation:
Official Google Blog: Rumor of the day: “Here’s what’s really going on. We are testing a new way for content owners to submit their content to Google, which we hope will complement existing methods such as our web crawl and Google Sitemaps.”
And that’s the reality, straight from the horse’s mouth.
Ta! I’ll be around late tomorrow to bring the belated search engine day of news.

PageRank.net has an online PageRank Checker. Handy if you have decided not to install the Google Toolbar. They also have a list of other SEO tools such as:
Keyword Density Analyzer
Link Popularity Checker
Meta Tag Generator
Search Engine Position Tool
Search Engine Saturation
Search Engine Simulator
I haven’t tested any of them recently - but can you really have too many SEO tools?
And of course remember, page rank has its place of importance in determining how GOogle feela about your site — BUT it’s not something to obsess over either.

It seems that Google has used Weblogs Inc as a case study on how to increase Adsense revenue for Bloggers. Here’s a clip from the Web Pro News article.
“E-business professionals everywhere stood up and took notice when Jason Calacanis’ Weblogs, Inc., bringing in $3000 a day with Google AdSense, was swallowed up by America Online for a reported $25 million. Google noticed the success as well, releasing a case study on Weblogs, Inc.’s success. In the study, Google taps Calacanis’ brain to discover the secret of his AdSense success.
Calacanis reveals that it took some diligent experimentation to arrive at a good mix of strategy. Using AdSense channels to track performance, Calacanis’ team tweaked their pages by increasing the number of ads, tried on colors, sizes, and locations. ”

I just got the funniest email.
It was from webmaster@freetraffictip.com.
And that was the comedy - no such email exists. So I thought it warranted a quick post to tell you, if you didn’t already know, that I don’t send unsolited messages - it’s always in reply to something, a specific personal observation, part of a conversation, or because you subscribed to a newsletter/updates/course.
And it will Never come from webmaster@freetraffictip.com or any generic address. If it comes from me and you’re not expecting it, make sure it doesn’t have an attachment before you open it. You can always write to me and ask if I sent you something…
