Yahoo News from the 9th

On the 9th (yes, that was a week ago, and yeah, I’m off my game. Happy???) Yahoo Bought del.icio.us, which I first read about in Micro Persuasion.

Why am I bringing it up a week late? Because I found this interesting and thought you would too. (So get off my back! :-D Kidding/loveyou/meanit.)

“I conducted a brief iChat IM interview with Josh, which I have published below. The key news is that del.icio.us and Yahoo My Web 2.0 for now will remain separate products with cross-polination in the future.”

So go read more about it from Steve. G’won!

Search Engine News with Screenshots :: Google Firefox Extension (Web Comments)

I’m so jealous of how cozy Google and Firefox are right now. Man. I may have to break up with Yahoo over this here… (We can stay friends..)

The News ==> This is the sexiest thing that Google has done in a minute. If you like the Blog This extension for Firefox, you’re going to loooooove this. I quote for you from the Official Google Blog in a post from yesterday evening:

“Originally conceived by my friend and mentor, Aaron Boodman, this Firefox extension shows you what bloggers around the world are saying about the websites you are viewing. ”

Thoughts ==> That doesn’t even Begin to explain how emeffing cool this is. And I’m not being my overly-dramatic self this time… this really is hella cool. I guess the guy who made it was being modest.

I’ll explain more about this in a few minutes….

I’m using the new Google Firefox extension for Web Comments to comment on the Blogger Dashboard page. This is going to take many, many screenshots and perhaps even a video to explain.

Okay. I just saw something that I have to do a video about – if you’re a Traffic Reality member, I’ll definitely have to do a longer one for you. Wow.

Search Engine News: Yahoo: One Page Podcast Management

Clip from Search Engine Watch Blog ==> “Word from Sunnyvale that Yahoo’s has just added a new feature to their podcast directory called My Subscriptions that allows registered Yahoo users to keep track and organize all of their podcast subscriptions on a single page.”

Link ==> New from Yahoo: Manage of All of Your Podcast Subscriptions on a Single Page:

Thoughts ==> I can be married to two search engines at the same time, right?

4 Ways Branded Sales Pages Increase Your Conversion Rates

The whole reason that I was even thinking about changing payment processors, instead of adding an additional alternative, is that the audience most likely to purchase my products gets kind of confused when they find themselves re-directed to another site for payments, that doesn’t even look like the site they came from.

Why?

Well, again, let’s look at it logically.

Imagine that you’re in Kmart, and you wanted to buy a book really quickly. You stand in line, you get to the front, and the cashier tells you that you have to go to the bank on the corner to pay for your items. Then they assure you that once the bank has your money, they have a vested interest in making sure you get your book.

True, but confusing, right?

Is This THE PayPal Alternative?

If you’ve read some of my earlier posts, you know that I’m one of the people generally having a love/hate relationship with PayPal. When I wrote that article last year, I had a bit of a higher tolerance for them. Nowadays, I don’t know…

Especially this time of year, the length of time it takes for that payment page to load just kills my conversion rate.

Just about every year, I see a few possible alternatives but I’m never satisfied. Some systems are easily cheated or have high rates of fraud. Merchant accounts are messy and have so many fees invloved that I’d have to jack up all my pricing just to cover processing costs.

Then there are the ones that are kind of like PayPal, like Clickbank or 2Checkout, but they aren’t suited to service-oriented businesses – and the majority of my high-end sales end in requests for additional consulting.

Where are Parts One and Two… I know, I’m Sorry!

I got my whole article submissions process backwards today… so I’ve got part three of the algorithm series hanging out there, and since you can only submit one part with an article distribution service, I normally go back in a manually input the others at popular sites.

But I screwed it up a bit. When I add the articles page it’ll be in there. For now you can read the whole algorithm-proof series here.
