Hey, You're New Here! We love new people.
It would be great seeing you back again, so please subscribe by RSS feed, or get updates by email, before you forget!
Salutations!
For those of you who don’t realize, I’m on something like a sabbatical until early February. With the exception of major projects and Traffic Reality, I’m pretty much not around for the moment. I’ll be setting up a series of oldie but goodie posts to fill in the time I’m off the ranch.
However, there will be an issue of the Zero Cost Traffic ezine forthcoming before the end of the month to get you caught up and to give you some insight into what you might want to look at for 2006.
If you’re a Traffic Reality member, expect to see your first issue in the next few days, possibly as soon as this weekend, as well as access to the knowledgebase and articles, in addition to at least one audio or video update, and the scheduling of our first online gathering. (How have I been able to maintain my top rankings with my blog even when I haven’t been around to post? Traffic Reality members will find out really soon, in the first of my Search Engine Simplicity series.)
From now, maybe until March, there are no new memberships to Traffic Reality available. But if you are a member presently and you haven’t scheduled your call, please reply to my email… the whole group’s kinda waiting on you. ;-D
I’m feeling well and I hope you are too. Stay Tuned!

Whether or not your business is online, you can get listed at Google Local or in Yahoo’s local listings. You’ll need the physical location of your offices, a phone number to list, a description of what you do or sell, an email address and your site address if you have one.
For Google, you’ll also need a Google account, which you already have if you’ve signed up for Gmail, Adwords, Google Sitemaps or any other online based Google product that requires nn email address.
As we discussed, local search is becoming more important to your business.
Start by getting listed for Google local. It’s free and they have a verification process.
Basic Local Yahoo listings are free of charge as well.

As part of the new direction of my content sites, I’ll be suggesting a few tasks per week that most sites can use to strengthen their linking, traffic and/or search positions. There will be extra information in the Traffic Reality member area starting in February.
With both Google and Yahoo making a stronger integration of mobile phones and other electronic devices into the Internet experience, not only access to the Internet becoming a household necessity, but the use of the Internet comes closer to being taken for granted.
Pretty soon, the every day consumer will give a person without internet access the same look they would someone who didn’t have a television. Being without email will almost be like not having a home mailing address.
In light of that, Local search is going to become a lot more important, and not just those with physical offices or stores.
Sometimes I find people ending up at my site as a result of typing in something that has to do with the location of the suite I use as my office, coupled with the regular keywords they would use. My guess is that even over the Internet, folks are more comfortable working with those who are nearby geographically, and who have a physical address of some sort.
So even if you run an internet-based business, you can get advantages of local search.
This coming week, your task is to think local. Add your site to Yahoo and Google’s local directories. Add your mailing address, even if it’s a PO Box, somewhere on your site.

Clip ==> “The service, comprised of the Yahoo Go Desktop, Yahoo Go Mobile, and Yahoo Go TV interfaces, will serve up all of a user’s Yahoo content, such as photos, e-mail, and address books, no matter what device a consumer is using as long as it is connected to the Internet, Semel said during his keynote at the Consumer Electronics Show here.”

Pick up a Motorola phone.
Clip ==> “The company said in a statement late Thursday it will integrate a Google icon onto certain Internet-optimized handsets that will be distributed starting in the first quarter this year….
Motorola is also working with Yahoo Inc. to bring Yahoo Go Mobile, a mobile version of Yahoo’s search and content, to those phones, Marco Boerries, senior vice president of Yahoo’s “Connected Life” division, said Thursday. ”

Thoughts ==> Think of the implications this has for people listed in Local Search. If you haven’t handled your business yet, get cracking. (There will be links in an upcoming post.)

News - Google put together a year-end Zeitgist for 2005. They showed several top searches in different categories and came up with top tens for each. Some of them potentially give insight for trends that could continue into this year. For example, look at this one for Froogle - with further study, this list could help you decide what kind of affiliate/Adsense site to start this year:
“Froogle - Top Searches in 2005
1. ipod
2. digital camera
3. mp3 player
4. ipod mini
5. psp
6. laptop
7. xbox
8. ipod shuffle
9. computer desk
10. ipod nano”
Rather interesting. Peek at some more : Google Press Center: Zeitgeist:
