So That’s What Those Things Are, Eh, Vanessa of Google?

To see what we’re about to talk about, open this search for FDIC or Promotion World in a new window.

See them sexy links just under the listing, taking up all that premium real estate? Google calls them Site Links, and yesterday explained where the heck the get them from, and why our sites may not get to play,….

Our process for generating Sitelinks is completely automated. We show them when we think they’ll be most useful to searchers, saving them time from hunting through web pages to find the information they are looking for. Over time, we may look for ways to incorporate input from webmasters too.

The post by Vanessa Fox (who is totally smart and brilliant, you should subscribe to that blog) in no way alludes to what I’m about to day, it’s purely…

Great Free Ebook on Traffic

I went over to Associate Programs, Allan Gardyne’s site, because I hadn’t been by his forums in forever, and there’s always good information circulating there. While I was there I found a great free ebook on traffic – it’s the most information you’re going to get about traffic free, short of … well, short of a blog about free traffic tips. :)

Head on over and get your copy, totally free.

The Most Important Thing I Have to Say…

Is thank you. I’ve been going through some issues lately, the details of which I won’t bore you with.

Sometimes this business can be really hard and kind of lonely. If not for your business associates and friends sometimes, it feels like you’ll go nuts dealing with the special issues an internet business with a moderate level of visibility will bring. In rough times, there isn’t the same kind of support network there is when you work in an office, or run a family business. In some cases, there’s no such thing as a personal or sick day, let alone a brief sabbatical, if you want to keep your business afloat.

Unless, of course, you end up with your own network of reliable business acquaintances and friends. And there’s one person I leaned particularly hard on during this short interim, who just went way beyond helpful. Big thanks to Antonio Thornton for taking time out of his schedule to back me up in some pretty dire moments. His name might not be familiar to you, but you’ve almost certainly come across his handiwork, probably in the past few weeks — he’s been in the background in quite a few launches lately, a couple of them pretty major, which I won’t embarrass him by naming.

Thank you for all of your help, Antonio. You’re a man of character and integrity.

Two Google Blogs You Might Have Missed

I know you can totally function without my Google news. But while I was being nosy and trying to make sure I was subscribed to all the Google Blogs, i noticed something that you might not have caught.

This summer, Google has been “Doing It To The Most” this summer, as a friend of mine keeps insisting on saying, despite my on-going ribbing. If you took the summer light or completely off, you may have missed the Google Webmaster Central blog – latest post, “How search results may differ based on accented characters and interface languages“.

There’s also a Google Checkout blog, latest post from the CEO of Channel Advisor.

Traffic Reality subscribers are going to get an updated list of all the blogs, summaries and subscribe information during the month of Google. We’re gonna get that TR party started right this weekend with some video updates, too.

I missed Blog Day so here ya go.

Yesterday was blog day, when you’re supposed to list some of your favorite blogs. I’m going to try to do blogs that aren’t on my link list or in my side bar only, for blogs that I don’t write for or partner wi.

I hope you’re ready….

Guess Who’s Back

So. It’s September. Welcome to the season of Tinu.

For no other reason than because I said so.

OK, the real reason is that I haven’t had the chance to blog in a month. The last two weeks of July to the first three weeks of August – well, on second thought, let’s not even talk about that. Referencing your down times does nothing but change your focus. So I’m just going to tell you what was necessary. I came back in the middle of that time frame to find my site hacked. Again. But this was the first time I’d had so much trouble determining why it was down, and getting it back up.

But I’ll tell you what. My favorite web host, Alpha One Tech, who is the host of all of my sites that make any money, saved my behind AGAIN. I originally thought I’d lost all of July, but as you can see, their support department is chock full of Genius, and I got my site back online.

So shout out to the would-be saboteurs…
