Get Your Google Finance Canada On. For Reals.

Last Tuesday, Google prematurely let loose a post about Google Finance for Canada. It was a bit humorous, but I found the news quite boring in comparison to other Google blog posts.

Then, today, in a late-breaking story, there was another post!

A longer post!

About Google Finance Canada!

And though it was only less dry by a small margin, it will likely please Canadians who want their own Google Finance. Why should they be deprived of such fudgy goodness?

Google Webmaster Central Gives Us The 411 on the Supplemental. And Video in Parenthetical

I adore the word Parenthetical.

I have hi-jacked the video if that’s all you want to see…

But first you will have to scan my words! HA! You’re trapped! All your eyeballs are belong to me!

Anyway, on the way back from Crazyville, where I am mayor, I read this at the Google Webmaster Blog:

The distinction between the main and the supplemental index is therefore continuing to narrow. Given all the progress that we’ve been able to make so far, and thinking ahead to future improvements, we’ve decided to stop labeling these URLs as “Supplemental Results.” Of course, you will continue to benefit from Google’s supplemental index being deeper and fresher.

I think that’s fantastic news for small business especially, because, more and more, the most focused surfer is looking for information in what may be relegated to the supplemental results area. Of course, supplemental results are hardly meant as a punishment per se, but it can feel like it.

Google Tech Video on Inbox Productivity with Merlin Mann of 43 Folders

Quote from the page which describes the video –> “Merlin Mann, a well known productivity guru and creator of the popular 43 folders website will talk about Getting Things Done, the importance of getting your inbox to zero, and strategies for dealing with high volume email.”

My Thoughts –> I dream of the days when I can, even with a team, get my Inbox back down to zero. The Inbox on my desk? Piece of cake. My email Inbox? I dunno. BUT, he’s got tips on high volume email. I’m hoping to learn more about how to do everything without having a gajillion filters and labels, cuz I forget what they’re for.

The Video –> How I wish I had an arrow that pointed down. But I’m betting that you’re so cool that you’re able to scroll down.

Google Blog Master List with Feeds and Discussion Groups Updated with OPML file download

Since we created our list of all the Google blogs and their corresponding feeds and discussion groups, two more have matured, bringing the grand total of blogs to 61.

Joining the list today we have the Google News blog, which has also just added a Google News discussion group, and the Google Finance blog, which has added a feature that updates your Google Calendar with finance quotes.

Edit*: Apparently we forgot the new Gmail Blog where the GMail video you can star in is being made, and the recently created Google Desktop API blog. They’re now on the list.

Also added to our Google blogs resource page: an OPML file for you to download, which is also in a location you can use to simply import them to your regular RSS feed subscriptions.

Have YOU got Anxpostcomitis? Here’s Help.

reaching out to clients through your computerWhat if you’re like me, and have to overcome online shyness issues?

Take baby steps.

These specific tips might help too. :)

  • Strive a little more each day to be a more social blogger.

Set a goal to comment more – pick a number that’s twice the number of comments you make per day and do that much commenting every other day this week.

Talk about other blog posts on your blog and send trackback links.

Do Your Visitors Have AnxPostComitis? Here’s What to Do.

If you want people like me, who often refrain from commenting 50% of the time due to shyness, here’s a few suggestions for how you can get us to post more:

  1. Think of getting us to post like making a new friend. We may respond well to questions near the end of your post, polls, or anything that makes us feel like we’re helping by commenting or adding feedback.
  2. Give us incentive to post. Install a DoFollow plug-in. Reward commenters who speak up.
  3. Respond to the people who respond to you. It’s pretty easy for me to tell who just spoke up because they’re hoping for a link (instant deletion if the comment is not relevant to the discussion.) but for the majority of people, I will visit their site at least once. if I find something interesting, I’ll link out to them from a post.
  4. Follow up privately the first time we post if that is appropriate. You know that you don’t bite, but we might not be so sure. :)

My Name is Tinu. And I Have AnxPostComitis.

anxietyguy162×116In my offline world, I’m shy around new people.

See, when I was growing up, we moved a lot, and as a bookworm, I didn’t have what you call “the social skills” as my fellow Waterboy fans will call it. Part of that little girl in me never grew up. In that way, I’m a lot like most people.

When I first came to the web, I was here to escape phone interactions and in-person chats, which makes me like a lot of people.

What makes me not like a lot of people was that I knew it wouldn’t last. I knew the popular kids would find a way for us to all interact online. And then…
