hought you might want to know the origins of Halloween – and what, exactly does the phrase “Trick or Treat” mean?
Halloween is known and loved today as a time to wear costumes, go door to door asking for candy, and watch monster movies. But the holiday’s origins go back centuries to the enactment of All Saints’ Day, a Christian holiday. Along the way, it has also picked up traditions from Samhain, a Celtic festival celebrating the start of winter.
All Saints’ Day
The name “Halloween” began as “All Hallows Eve.” This became “All Hallow E’en,” leading to “Hallowe’en,” or Halloween. It was the evening before All Hallows Day, which was later called All Saints’ Day. (In this case, “hallows” meant “saints.”)

In a recent Twitter report, I read that Joshua Strebel was a BIG Effin Loser.
Since I’m the President of the Chris Hooley Drinking Fan Club, after reading this post, I had to join in.
Seriously, I don’t know Chris well, but his writing is pretty funny, and he has a good rep. What funner way to make you aware of him?

Age of Conversation
There’s this wonderful project I’m a part of, and all the hard work of the project leaders has come to fruition. A while back, I told you about the childish jealousy that led me to be a part of The Age of Conversation Part Two. In this book, you can read 239 perspectives explaining how to be successful in the Age of Conversation – a goldmine if you’re an entrepreneur or a small business owner.
What I didn’t tell you then is that all the proceeds go to a children’s charity, Variety. So, I know it’s late in the day, but I took a chance that you’d be in a much more giving mood when the day was done. The sale has been on for 12 hours, and it would be wonderful if by midnight Pacific time, we could have $15,000 to hand over to this fabulous charity.

This might be a lifesaver (not the candy) for some of you – but some of you might think it’s still sweet!
All platforms:
The Firefox Asterisk Revealer reveals the contents of any password whose text is obscured by asterisks in an alert box using a simple JavaScript.
How often do we forget are saved passwords? very often. It takes just a few months of blogging to accumulate so many passwords, I should personally have over 15 different accounts.
So how do I recover the password I’ve saved but can’t remember any more;
Here is your account:

Now you want to see the password in letters. Paste this script in your browsers address bar and hit enter.

This is the last of the “Eight Web Developer Must Have Firefox Extensions” – but all good things (sometimes) must come to an end. If you’re visiting this site for the first time, you’ll find the previous7 must have extensions simply by using the ‘way back machine’ to visit the last 3 Fridays. Thanks.

Firebug – This is probably the most important web development tool. This Firefox add-on allows you to browse and tweak HTML, CSS and JavaScript on a desired web page and preview the changes on the fly. It places an icon on the right-side of the status bar that informs you of errors in a web page. When you click on the icon it opens up a window that displays the line in which the error is found – this way it is easy to track errors on your web pages. In the Inspect mode hover with your mouse over a desired element and it will display all the codes that generate that element much better than using the Page source that most browsers offer. It takes a whole page to write on FireFTP.

There’s just two more “Eight Web Developer Must Have Firefox Extensions” left.
Here’s number two of eight.

FireFTP is a Firefox add-on that turns your browser into a full-featured FTP client. FireFTP opens up in a new tab that offers a two-panel interface that permits you to browse and transfer files between the remote server and your local PC.
This FTP client is easy to use, so just try it out.
Its major draw back is that unfortunately it still does not support SFTP or SSH. (I haven’t checked out whether FireFox 3.0 and above has fixed this).
