[video] Perry Belcher Makes a Great Explanation of Social Media “Marketing”

I thought that was gonna be the dumbest video Ever. Go watch it first, then read this. You’ll be glad you did no matter how much of an expert or newbie you are.

I thought it was gonna be, “how I market on social media sites, blah blah” – after all, the title was How to Make Money with Social Media.

Tool Time Friday | Searching for a better search?

An addon for Google and Yahoo! with all their international flavours, MSN and Delicious by adding previews (thumbnails) and Amazon product images and info (type, price, rating) as well as “Open in New Window”, “Site Info”, “Wayback Machine” links and a Quick Preview feature to the search results.

Please note: When you use BetterSearch and click on an Amazon result, you support me and the further development of the extension if you actually purchase a product. If you want to know more about this behaviour, it’s explained in detail on the extension website (look for the FAQ).

Works with Firefox 1.5-3.0! Yipee!

Tool Time Friday | You’re Gonna Love This One!

If you’re a big user of Google (and face it, who isn’t?), you’ll want to install this add-on.

It customizes Google in just about any way you could imagine, and no doubt in many ways you couldn’t. For starters, it will block Google’s ads as well as Google analytic cookies (some people believe these cookies invade their privacy). Additionally, it anonymizes your Google user ID.

That’s just the beginning, though.

The extension adds links in your Google search results to other search engines, such as Yahoo and Ask.com, among others. It will also filter out search results from Web sites known to be spammers, and it will let you customize not just Google, but its various sites and features such as Gmail and Google News.

Tool Time Friday | Coke, Pepsi or Tab?

Tab Groups is a firefox extension that lets a user organize tabs into groups, those groups in turn can be switched between through their own tab bar. This extension is aimed at power users who have many tabs open on different subjects at once so that organizing these tabs coherently can become difficult. Windows are cumbersome to work with and tab placement is likewise less than ideal when the number of tabs makes their titles hard to distinguish. Currently supports FireFox version 2.0+.

Tab Groups is currently labeled pre-alpha and is at version 0.02, so no guarantees are made on it working properly however no “major” bugs are known of (see here for known bugs). The basic functionality is in place but there are conflicts with some extensions and a lack of UI niceness. Special thanks to HardLine on the Genmay forums for the original idea.

Tool Time Friday | To Bug or To Bug Me Not

Registering with a Web site often means making a deal with the devil.

You give the site information such as your name, e-mail address, and potentially more private data such as your mailing address, phone number, and age. But what happens with that information? You may be inundated by spam, your name may be sold to mailing lists and advertisers, and possibly worse. But for many Web sites, if you don’t register, you can’t log in and use the site.

This add-on solves the problem. Go to a Web site, right-click in the user name or password field, and select BugMeNot. A valid user name and password will then be entered into the form. You can then use the site without having to register. The add-on works in concert with the BugMeNot Web site, which has many user names and passwords for multiple sites.
