Linux News: Networks: Open Source Weblog, Content Management Systems
In this article, as imposing as the ttile sounds, is a fairly straightforwward description of several open-source – though not all free – content and/or blog management systems. If you’re learning more about RSS, and think that your best solution is to add one of these to your site, it can help you make an educated decision for which one to choose for your needs.
Personally, I favor b2evolution for blogs. Yes, I love Blogger for its simplicity and the ability to get public blogs attention in Google, but for sites that I own which aren’t as simple as this one, I enjoy having the ability to have multiple categories, trackback and several flavors of automatic feeds fully integrated with my site.
For content management, my preference is PHP-Nuke. The user community is very supportive, and you can often find modifications to make it fit your site.
My present host installed one blog system and one content management system when I signed up – and if I wanted to add a new system, it’s as easy as clicking a button and filling in some standard information. They also have created a special free blog hosting option for my customers. (Shhhh. It’s an unannounced bonus right now. But I won’t tell if you won’t.)
