Google Wants to Improve Web Browsers – Search Engine News Journal
What’s most interesting about the article at Search Engine Journal to me is this quote:
DepikaGlobal reports that Sergey Brin discussed the specualtion with reporters; ‘’There has been much speculation. But our work is focussed on improving the browsing experience,’’ Brin added ‘’Today’s browsers are doing a pretty good job, but they can be improved. What we are looking to do is to enhance the quality of the browsing experience.â€
To me it is of note because it raises a question – how do you enhance the quality of the browsing experience without developing a browser? Google Desktop?
I guess we’ll see.
Speaking of the new Google Beta tool, I’ve been making notes about Google Desktop throughout the day. I’ll share them with you today if I can – if not, I’ll have more details on the next Google Tuesday.
Preliminary findings – it’s found 21,000 documents so far, and is indexing more document types that I previously realized it would. What I wanted most was a way to search for PDF documents – I have so many that it overwhelms my filing system. I’d rather not spend my life creating folders, and the search function built into Windows always takes several searches to find something specific.
And I used to support specialized versions of Microsoft 98, 2000, XP Home and Professional.
So at first look, if your primary engine is Google, and you have Windows and use Firefox, regular Mozilla or IE, it’s worth the download.
