Today’s Money Monday focus is on the Job Mentality, and how it can help and hinder you.

Before I speak on that, I just want to take a short time out to remind you that tomorrow is election day here in the United States. Those of us who watch TV can’t seem to get away from this fact, but I know that many of us who are entrepreneurs sometimes forget this in our busy schedules.

I prepared to vote early this year, and much to my surprise and disbelief, even though I registered at the Department of Motor Vehicles here in Nevada over a year ago, my registration did not go through. Since I’m registered as an Independent, I didn’t notice this during the primary, when most people who are active voters would.

I cried, yes, actual tears, when I thought there was a chance that I’d be denied my right to vote. Think about it for a minute - what if you were told that you CAN’T vote. There’s a big difference between deciding not to vote, and being told that you can’t. And just the thought made me appreciate it all the more.

The good news is, since I was registered in the state I moved from, and technically, my permanent residence is there, I was able to start the process for late registration in that state, and my right to vote was not permanently denied.

i won’t speculate on how it is possible that I could register at a state-run institution and still have this kind of thing happen. Maybe it was voter registration fraud, maybe it was just a mistake of paperwork.

But I do know that this feeling is one I never want to experience again.
