Google Cautions You About Shady SEO

Wow. I have heard of black hat SEO of course. And man, I have heard some horror stories. But the stories on Google’s SEO section of their webmaster information section takes the cake.

They even name names, so there’s not much for me to comment on but this:

No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google.

People ask me to help them be number one on Google all the time. It’s how you can tell someone is inexperienced at the whole SEO thing – no one can guarantee you a number one position. Someone can make a deal with you to say, I’ll get you on the first page for this term or your money back, sure. But make sure it’s a reputable person or you might find yourself out of your money.

And make sure it’s a term you couldn’t get on your own anyway – use the tools in the free lucrative keyword tutorial to measure a term’s difficulty.

Another thing to look out for – Google says to be wary of sites that

has had domains removed from Google’s index or is not itself listed in Google

If you can’t find them in Google, how are they going to get you in there. True, some sites try to keep a low profile. But most good SEO experts have more than one site – see that you’re able to find them listed for terms you can’t or don’t have time to get on your own.

Read more in Google’s SEO section. And I’ll be right back momentarily.
