Google Tip :: Google’s New SEO Rules – How they may affect your ranking

The News

“Google has recently made some pretty significant changes in its ranking algorithm. The latest update, dubbed by Google forum users as ‘Allegra’, has left some web sites in the dust and catapulted others to top positions. Major updates like this can happen a few times a year at Google, which is why picking the right search engine optimization company can be the difference between online success and failure. However, it becomes an increasingly difficult decision when SEO firms themselves are suffering from the Allegra update.”

My Own Wild Theories and Speculation

Even if you do all your do-it-yourself-SEO techniques right, from the beginner, occasionally, you can still drop out of Google’s rankings. I have yet to have this experience with my commerical sites, though some of my non-commerical sites would sometimes suffer from these issues in the past.

You just can’t predict what the search engines are going to do next – there’s no magic wand. All you can do is make your site as appealing as possible to both the search engines and the visitors it gets you.

Logically this tells you that you cannot rely on search engines to bring you traffic – you need to back up these methods with other reliable ways to produce both return visits and to generate new business.

Having said that, when I’m asked why my commercial sites seem to stick in the search engines, no matter what, I state that in my personal research, I believe it’s for three reasons.

1- Consistently fresh, relevant content for the keywords I pursue, geared towards the visitor rather than the search engines.

2- A great deal of sites that search engines frequently crawl linking back to me, for the terms I most desire – in a way I can control, namely, RSS.

3- Tailoring each new technology and promotion/marketing method that comes along to my site’s topic and lucrative seo, from the start, instead of pursuing the same highly competitive keywords that everyone else wants.
