Google has released a beta version of a translation tool that allows users to search the Internet and translate the results into the language of their choice. The “cross language information retrieval” feature can be accessed online.
“According to Google vice president of engineering Udi Manber, the feature will in effect … make the Web universal.
We have been working on translating all of the Web to all languages. The results are probably not perfect, but the information you want will be there”.
The beta software can translate search queries that conduct multi-ligual searches of the Internet, then translates the findings into the user’s language of choice.
The languages covered are: Arabic, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portugese, Russian, Spanish and traditional and simplified Chinese.
