Microsoft Officials Deny Competition with Google
Yeah. Right.
Search Engine Lowdown’s Andy Beal says it best:
“No, of course you’re not competing. I’m confident that should you somehow topple Google from the #1 search spot, you won’t make a big song and dance about it, will you?
”
Rant ahead. If you just wanted the news, stop reading here.
MSN, I have to say I’m disappointed. I would have had more respect for a Vaderesque comment usch as “We will Destroy You, Google,” or even a sportsman-like “Yes, we’re competing. And may the best search engine win. Which of course would be us.”
This cross between the disdainful “We don’t have to compete with the likes of them.” and “All of a sudden, even though we’ve largely ignored pleas of mercy regarding IE6, we really, really are looking to delight our customers.”?
Not cool.
You want to delight me Microsoft? Drop every other project you have going in the entire universe and make MS Office, Windows Explorer and IE work right.
No more crashing. No more freezing. No more excuses. Just make it work right, or at least as advertised.
And don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful we have the stuff at all. But if more often than not, it’s a rusty spoon when I need a sharp knife, what good is it to me?
This is the part where I’d beg not to be barred for life from MSN search for my viewpoint on this issue. But I wouldn’t notice the difference in traffic now, would I?
I know, I know, I’m being too harsh. But that “delight our customers” comment really chapped my hide.
Satisfied? Semi. But.
I. Am not delighted.
