Google Tuesdays: Google Tip of the Day

According to our pals over at Search Engine Roundtable, some informaton about the Google toolbar has verily verily I say unto you disappeared from the tour about the Google Toolbar.

Is it true? Was it ever there at all? Is PageRank really meaningless? Does it have a meaning other than the fuss millions of people gave to it? The Tip on this page will give you some more information: Google Removes PageRank Topic from Toolbar Tour.

My Own Wild Gossip and Speculation is this:

Page Rank is of some relevance, but I can’t see any real reason besides bragging rights to attempt to get a page above a six if you have a real life besides the fact that other people would pay to be linked from your site. It’s not worth the effort if your goal online is to sell actual products though.

Page rank, in my opinion, seems to have given me the best boost because it was a safe indication of how often Google was spidering a site. I’d push to leave links to my site, true linkbakcs or not, in the path of Google until I got to five. By a PR5, Google was normally spidering me daily. That’s all a girl who has other things to do than sweat over a little green indicator could ask for.

But if you have the time on your hands and you get to a six or above – some people want it badly enough to pay you to link to them, knowing, most of the time, that the actual Page Rank won’t make them another dime. I say heck, I’m in America and I’m a capitalist babe.

If you want to give me $200 a year to link to you from one or more premium spots, I’d be happy to add you to the list. Over the course of a year, I can see how a link from me might earn a person that money back and much more – but sadly the personal endorsement that causes these conditions is not for sale.

But, with a premium link, you would probably break even whether I talked you up or not… But just so you know? On some parts of this site, I Will link to you for free…
