Research usually takes me about an hour, but I've been a speed reader for about thirteen years. I have a method, and it often determines whether that hour will produce four tips or one.
I also write from my own knowledge for posts that aren't about other sites, so that cuts down on research dramatically - then I just need to link to or show the evidence that supports what I'm saying. And depending on the post that isn't always necessary, as the site itself, or a client's site, is often the evidence.
