Google’s Latest Acquisition? Jaiku | Google Tuesday

Hey, You're New Here! We love new people.

Please do us the honor of returning. You can subscribe by RSS feed, or get updates by email. We also welcome your feedback on the posted information. When filling out the form, don't forget to leave your link and your first name.

The confirmations are in.

Both Google and Jaiku have announced that Jaiku has been purchased by Google, as Om Malik also reported on GigaOM.

Jaiku is cuter, Pownce has the most functionality but out of the three, I love and use Twitter the most, despite the fact that the links are nofollow. For status updates, only Facebook is getting more love from me right now, and that’s only because I keep forgetting that there’s a FB app for Twitter.

That’s normally a deal-breaker for me, which shows just how much I adore Twitter. It’s simplicity of purpose rules. So I have the same question as the folks at Mashable - why not Twitter? If I were Yahoo, I’d put a bid in for Twitter tonight.

I mean, imagine if they could do with Twitter what they did with Flickr. (Meaning, not muck about with it too much aside from providing more resources. ;) )

New to Jaiku? Here’s a few resources to help you get familiar. But take note, you must now request an invitation to join Jaiku, as you’ll see when you go there until, according to Google’s post, “we’re ready to expand”.

Here’s Jaiku’s official site tour.
And last but not least, here’s my video about Twitter vs Jaiku.

Signed up for both, but haven’t spent much time on either. Yahoo has been buying up social networks as well. They bought upcoming.org ( and made it a subdomain of Yahoo, very UNCOOL) and they bought mybloglog a while back (which they left alone thankfully).

Yeah, MyBlogLog and Flickr are the ones I think of when I say they have a greater (but not perfect) tendency to leave properties they buy alone.

I get a lot of news, and insight from using Twitter. I heard about the Jaiku purchase on Twitter, ironically.

Well, I wouldn’t be surprised to know one day that Google has bought everything, from social bookmarking sites to social networks.

World domination at its finest and subtlest methods. (wink)

Thanks, Tinu… I missed that piece of new on Twitter.

I actually prefer Jaiku because I found the social interacting more intuitive for direct responses to posts and I love how they allow all your different feeds…

Since I also love Gmail, I look forward to what Googs will do w/ Jaiku.

    Thanks again,

    Angela.
