Gotta disagree with you though - it might be a must for all social *networking* sites, but not for all social media sites. I think it's entirely possible to start and be successful at StumbleUpon or even del.icio.us without being connected at all if you take the time to get to know people. Even Digg's algorithm favors the newbie right now... C,
