I use Opera and Firefox, and I love the tag clouds, because they’re intuitive to me (although my readers probably wouldn’t realize that they’re clickable).

I’m referring to all the links and icons (tags???) under each post. Your readers are much more internet savvy than mine, so mine wouldn’t know what RSS is or that icon, or any of the other icons.

But I’m always game to try something new. And if it works, who am I to say it’s crowded?

I just saw your comment about the tags. What browser are you using, because in all the browsers I’ve tested it in, the tags are after the content, therefore it shouldn’t have any effect on whether or not you can see and read the content.

On the tag pages themselves, I mentioned before that the template is broken – unless you want to browse by tag, you don’t have to use those pages. They’re extra features for the people who want them… you don’t *have* to use them.

And yes, it’s good for search engines, but that’s not why I use them. I already have the search positions I want, and tagging isn’t going to help me get more all by itself. Tags, to me, are more intuitive than categories, and tell me at a glance what topics I’ve written more about. It’s just a personal preference.

As far as doing it on your site, there’s lots of ways to implement tags. They can go after the content like mine do (except on the tag pages, which, as I said, are broken), or they can go before the content. You can do them with or without icons. You can do them manually using the tools at Technorati. It’s really up to you and how/why you’d like to implement them.

I can’t give you an exact date on that because I have to do a manual update, person by person, unlike with the Blog Package, that one is automated. But I promised quarterly updates and you’ll get them. The quarter is up at the end of the month, so it should be well before then.

I guess what I’m saying is, as a reader, I don’t know what all those links mean — there are links for RSS, and some other blue and gray links (Wikipedia?), and while I understand the content tags, sometimes I just want to get to the post right away.

Also, as a blog owner, I’m wondering why you do this. Is this a key to getting SE traffic? If so, is there a way to do it with less tags and less of the little icon links?

I feel like if I implemented this for my market (moms with young kids who are sleep-deprived!), they’d click away because it would be too much work for them to figure out what all the tags are for, and they wouldn’t be able to find the posts.
