Nice gem I found about through Kyle’s Cove, and he raises an interesting question:
Search Engine Optimization has been a popular topic over the past few years. Does it matter or not? I hear that argument more than the debate over the best way to optimize your blog’s findability.
In my opinion, it is important. The problem is, the major search engines are constantly changing their algorithms, causing SEO experts to constantly adjust their strategies.
Personally, I don’t think that last part is necessarily true – not that search engines don’t change their algorithms, maybe more than necessary, they do. I just don’t think it’s necessarily a Problem. I think the strategy most of us take, especially when we’re new to do it yourself SEO, is the real problem.
The search engines change their rules/algorithms because people keep trying to get on top unfairly, so the search engines have to keep smacking those folks back down. But if you understand their reasoning, you can strategize so that you rarely, if ever, run foul of it.
But we’ll get a bit more into that in another post.
