It’s Friday — Get Off Your Blog!

Friday is the best day of the week to become a more social member of the blogosphere. There’s probably nothing very serious planned for today. I like to use the day to go pick up anything I was eyeing for the week.

Why do you need to get away from your blog at least once a week? Because the best blog readers and commenters come from other bloggers. Support them and they’ll support you.

Here’s a Friday plan that will help you grow your links, network, have a better relationship with the blogosphere, is fun and can make other people happy!

  1. Make a list of 10 – 100 blogs to visit on one of your favorite subjects

It Doesn’t have to be a blog in your same industry though that is also a good idea. Pick a number you’re comfortable with, but more than you read last week. After this week, half of them should be blogs you’ve been to before.

  2. Visit those blogs and comment on at least one post that is on the front page.

Then browse one or two other posts – look for their list of best/popular posts – when we had a better template, ours was in the upper right hand corner, and that’s where most people keep theirs.

  3. After you’re done reading and commenting, pick a few of those blogs to make some weekend posts about in advance.

Instead of just doing an automatic link post, really give your readers something to sink their teeth into.

  4. Now, go to your favorite social networking site …

and share your favorite posts from all the blogs you’ve visited.

  5. Go back to the blogs you’ve read …

and let the blogger know you cared to share.

  6. Add all the blogs you have visited … to your blogroll.
  7. Repeat next Friday!

Blogging isn’t just about putting posts on your site. Mingle with the Blogosphere… people have gotten jobs, clients, networked with people they admire, found people to hire, and become inspired when reading other blogs.

The traffic boost doesn’t hurt anyone either.

So get off your blog and browse!

Right now.

  • Lieee,

Not as yet. I most tend to review sites that I happen upon, who comment on the posts, who are linked to me, or who I discover through Facebook somehow, in that order.. There are other ways to get my attention that I'll probably talk about in the coming week.

    Hey Jim,

So do I. I mean for OTHER people. Most folks who work a day job, for example, rarely plan major meetings and such on Fridays. That makes it a good day to get the party started as far as going to other sites. Basically you make one post on your blog., early, to show you're around, and then skeet around the interwebs lol, making new friends.
