This past Traffic Thursdays, I attempted to jump too quickly back into a more frequent work schedule. Silly me. Here’s the first of the three posts I was meant to publish then.
The video above is about Twitter – if you’ve heard of this site but don’t understand about it, then this video is definitely for you. Quick lowdown- Twitter is arguably the most popular, and definitely the simplest, of the new microblogging tools. Think instant messaging merged with social networking. To use it, you create an account, and then publish a short blurb of less than 140 characters telling what you’re up to at the moment.
Business uses? Here’s 6 quickies:
- Stalk your favorite guru with no real danger to them.
- Volunteer to be stalked by your friends/family/fans – you control how much informaton they have when you publish, and you can stay in touch with people without giving out your email address using direct messages..
- Get News Fast – I’ve heard reports of people blogging earthquakes as they happen, breaking news can be revealed here faster than in just about any other form of publishing.
- Be the first commenter on popular blogs – Several upper-tier bloggers tweet their postings. Show how much of a fan you are by being there to comment.
- Get more involved commenters – Tweet your most relevant blog posts. Twitters are the most commenting folks I know that are all in one place. Spam gets ignored because only people signed up to your tweets (or looking at the public timeline) will get the notifications.
- Get live, human advice – tweet a question, get suggestions.
If you decide to become a Twit
feel free to add me as your friend, I’m pretty liberal with adding back. For a fuller view of Twitter, read Robin Good’s excellent article. Also check out this post from Library clips for more on Twitter for business use.
