Calories a day!
What in the heck am I talking about? What has this got to do with traffic, tools, Google, SEO, making moolah, scratch, the long green, cash, geet, dead presidents, the money!?!
TLC had a special on obesity week before last.
The people who were featured in this piece were addicted to food. None of them had any medical abnormalities, such as thyroid imbalance nor any other anomaly that would cause this condition. Family members were not afflicted with this problem – the subjects (of this special) just didn’t have the will-power to stop eating. They really didn’t believe that they were consuming any more than an average person!
Some of them started down the road to obesity as children, others began their road to obesity as young adults, while others were in their 30′s-40′s (assumption based purely on how old I thought they were).
The “highlight” of the special was this guy who consumed 33,000 calories a DAY! His diet had no fruit or vegetables, and what he ate was incredible. He was consuming 4 pounds of fat a day. His salt and sugar intake per day was insane – more than you or I would consume in a week or two. As a “snack” he would eat 40 bags of chips (Doritos, Fritos, Lays, etc) a day.
Shocking as this was, I was more concerned with this person’s life, health, well-being and I wondered what would cause someone to be so out-of-balance to resort to this behavior. (He was in his 20′s-30′s when he started gorging). Well, I soon had the answer.
No friends. No self-respect. No support system. No love – for himself or by others. He was alone, except for the health care personnel that attended to him, doing things that he could not do for himself. How pitiful. How sad.
What are you addicted to? What is it that controls your life? Where, exactly are you going? What is lacking in your life?
“You walk into a room, with your pencil in your hand, you see somebody naked and you say “Who is that man?” You try so hard, but you don’t understand just what you’ll say when you get home. Because something is happening here, but you don’t know what it is – Do you, Mister Jones?” Bob Dylan – Highway 61 Revisited – Ballad of a Thin Man – 1965.
