Search Engine News with Screenshots :: Google Firefox Extension (Web Comments)

I’m so jealous of how cozy Google and Firefox are right now. Man. I may have to break up with Yahoo over this here… (We can stay friends..)

The News ==> This is the sexiest thing that Google has done in a minute. If you like the Blog This extension for Firefox, you’re going to loooooove this. I quote for you from the Official Google Blog in a post from yesterday evening:

“Originally conceived by my friend and mentor, Aaron Boodman, this Firefox extension shows you what bloggers around the world are saying about the websites you are viewing. ”

Thoughts ==> That doesn’t even Begin to explain how emeffing cool this is. And I’m not being my overly-dramatic self this time… this really is hella cool. I guess the guy who made it was being modest.

So what does it do?

When you’re surfing in your happy Firefox browser, you can look in the lower left hand of your browser to see if there’s a comment on the site you’re on in the Blogophere as known by Google (IE Google Blog Search).

If there aren’t any comment, you’ll get a little guy who looks like this:

and if there are comments, you’ll get a guy who looks like this :
He spins around sometimes too when you’re just getting to the page in question. Adorable!

So let’s say I found a page with comments, and I want to read more. (Which right now is the Blogger post editor.)

Should I be ready to view more comments, I can right-click on that bad boy, and select “view comments”. And see a cute little window with excerpts about the page I’m viewing that are pulled from Google Blog Search, as shown to your left.

The window also comes in a mini-version, as shown towards the top of the page. Ain’t he just the cutest thing?

But it’s not just a pretty interface.

You can doooooo stuff with it.

I can use the top left button on the teeny window to scroll through the comments, click the link in the middle to go to Google Blog search, and the buttons on the right to control the window (see less/more/close window – but it stays open in the background.)

And… And… If you’re using Blogger, you can use it to blog about whatever you’re looking at.

Enabling me to blog on the fly.

For example, maybe I want to make a comment about the page I’m on. You see that link at the bottom that says “Add comment?” (I’m screenshot happy today. Why should you have to scroll up to do this?)

I click that… and lo and behold… a re-sizeable post window…

I… Love you, Google. Come back. It will be like it was in the beginning…
