Search Engine Task :: Get Localized

As part of the new direction of my content sites, I’ll be suggesting a few tasks per week that most sites can use to strengthen their linking, traffic and/or search positions. There will be extra information in the Traffic Reality member area starting in February.

With both and making a stronger integration of mobile phones and other electronic devices into the Internet experience, not only access to the Internet becoming a household necessity, but the use of the Internet comes closer to being taken for granted.

Pretty soon, the every day consumer will give a person without internet access the same look they would someone who didn’t have a television. Being without email will almost be like not having a home mailing address.

In light of that, Local search is going to become a lot more important, and not just those with physical offices or stores.

Sometimes I find people ending up at my site as a result of typing in something that has to do with the location of the suite I use as my office, coupled with the regular keywords they would use. My guess is that even over the Internet, folks are more comfortable working with those who are nearby geographically, and who have a physical address of some sort.

So even if you run an internet-based business, you can get advantages of local search.

This coming week, your task is to think local. Add your site to Yahoo and Google’s local directories. Add your mailing address, even if it’s a PO Box, somewhere on your site.
