I knew I was doing a beter job with my headlines when fellow bloggers and a copywriter I know began to comment on them. That’s hardly a new tip, making your headlines more attractive.

But it gains new importance in the evolving web.

Think about the various ways your audience consumes information.

When they’re scanning their Inbox, they’re choosing from a list of headlines.

When they’re skimming RSS subscriptions, they’re pausing at headlines that interest them.

When they are deciding what sites to visit from a social news sites, they click on mesmerizing headlines.

The entry point to the hearts and minds of the people you can help is the headline. You may not get it right 100% of the them and that’s okay. But do your best to get them as often as you can.
