Traffic Thursdays | Adsense Video Update

Listen. If you have the money to make video ads, DO IT. I can’t keep my fingers off the Google videos ads. I see a play button and a cute kid or a car and I can’t help myself. I press play. I don’t know what you want from me, man. I know this sounds completely unlike me, but I’ve been YouTube’d. The curiousity factor just kills me.

I’ve spotted a lot of videos on Lockergnome blogs. Do you find them irresitable too? I meant to investigate how the pay structure works last time I wrote about this, but I still have no idea. Maybe I’ll ask someone over at the AdWords blog?

I normally hate commercials. Hopefully the novelty will wear off? Wait! What if they make them Interactive??? Like Flash games… I’m Doooomed!

Oh Google Baby, Can I Click You There?

The answer my beloved Google gives is YES. I didn’t realize you were allowed to click on your own Related Links from Google OR that you could alternate them with paid content. And it seems that related links box is getting more interesting too – here’s what it said on the official Adsense Blog:

Let me give you what the MBAs call the 8-second elevator pitch (our buildings are not very tall around here) on Google Related Links. The idea is you surf over to http://www.google.com/relatedlinks/ and start creating a Google Related Links unit for your site…

..While Google Related Links don’t give you revenue directly, you can use them to keep your site fresh and interesting without any maintenance. Happy visitors mean repeat visits. And if you’re feeling especially creative, try alternating between Google ads and Google Related Links in a given space on your page. This will encourage people to look in that space for interesting dynamic content.

I Almost Never Do This – even when there’s money in it for me

But this deal is too good to miss if you want to learn about Adsense from one of the people who has been making money with it the longest. And truthfully, by the time I press enter this may be over completely.

But. If you’re fast, you can get $2000 worth of AdSense knowledge for under $30.

I won’t make a dime telling you about this, and if I would, I normally wouldn’t do it in my blog. It’s not an affiliate link, and I don’t think there is one. But whether I use one or not, I’m only writing about a product if I believe it’s the right product at the right time for the right price.

So hurry.

*Update – I’ve just gotten word that you don’t just get the information during the teleseminar, you get to download a recording of it as well.

Free Traffic Tip: Google Tuesday’s Tools of the Day

The neat AdSense Tool of the day from Digital Point shows you what ads might be shown on your site when you sign up, so you know what to fliter out.

The Google tool of the day comes from Market Leap. Their search engine saturation tool will show you how many pages of your site are listed in the search engine. This was an extremely helpful tool as I moved my site, and it helped me get the pages that no longer exist dropped before I got the re-direct for the new pages to start getting picked up.

After a few days, 254 of those pages were back in the index at their new home…

Checks more than one search engine too.

Gettng More Money Out of AdSense

AdSense is Google’s program that lets you host their advertising on your site. The key to getting more money out of AdSense is in 3 things – study, testing, and successful integration of what you’ve learned into your site. For beginners, About AdSense will probably tell you everything you want to know in order to get a good start.

For me, the search box is the greatest thing to happen to AdSense. I used to wonder, wouldn’t it be great if you had the potential to get paid when someone did a Google search from your site? That box at the top of the site is great for web properties that have return traffic from an established audience. When people click on the ads, you get a percentage of each click.

I wouldn’t suggest that you put this on your subscription or sales page, or parts of your site where you want the visitor focused on one thing. Some people’s content is strong enough to compete with the lure of a Google search box, but the best thing is not to gamble with that until you have a re-curring audience.
