Google Video Changes Got You Down? Google Tries to Make Amends

Late last night, Google decided to give us Google Video users a break, possibly in part to banter over the issue among bloggers. They even admitted they were wrong.

Gasp! Don’t they know that they’re a large, publicly traded company? You can just go around… doing right! It’s almost.. un-evil… :)

Enough kidding. Here’s a quote:

When your friends and well-intentioned acquaintances tell you that you’ve made a mistake, it’s good to listen. So we’d like to say thank you to everyone who wrote to let us know that we had made a mistake in the case of Google Video’s Download to Own/Rent Refund Policy vs. Common Sense.

Tool Time Friday : The First Thing I’m Kinda Liking About Universal Search

… is watching videos right on the Google Results Pages. If you have run across the Google Universal Search results during the change-over already, you probably aren’t going to be impressed. But if you can’t see this neatness in Google, there’s a short video about it below.

Of course, Google has had same page video viewing at SearchMash for some time now, (though you still have to open the Video box and hover over the video to get the play button) and it’s in the Darth Vadar example in the announcement.

The (silent) video below shows me doing first a search for “matt cutts” in Google and clicking on the Video link to show same page play in Google Video, then a search for “matt cutts video” which gives video within the first five results that you can play right on the Google Web Results page. Watch it below, or at YouTube. Or you could click on the search results and try it yourself. :)

I’ll have more on my likes in Universal Search as time goes on.

Google Video Kick @ss Article of the Day by Jim Hedger

First, he gets One Million Cool Points from me for doing a search on “The Message” by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. Half of them were for knowing who they were. Rock on Jim….

But I didn’t even discover that gem until half way into this ISEDB article, “Video Raised the Internet Bar“, which is also thus far the cleverest play on the song title “Video Killed the Radio Star” as it relates to the web. Getting back to the article – it’s about an accidental stumble Jim and some golf buddies made into Google video to find video content that had good enough sound quality to fill a Led Zeppelin craving (I know. But I’d already awarded ALL the points).

Here’s a quote.

“Sufferin’ succotash dude! Hold your horses or even better, go slow-cook them. If it was that easy, I would just be able to type “led zeppelin” into Google like this and… HOLY ****! Check this out guys…”
