Search Engine Strategies in San Jose is going on right now, and I’ve been on the hunt for short videos. Everybody know that it’s quite obnoxious when you land on a site that looks like a lot of sites you’ve already seen.  When that happens to me, I skedaddle like a scalded cat.

Search Engines are known to penalize websites that contain Duplicate / Similar content. Your content could be similar to other websites on the Internet, or pages from within your own website could be similar to each other. This tool allows you to determine the percentage of similarity between two pages.

Here’s a tool that will inform you of your similarity – thus you can make changes and keep your website page(s) looking unique.

If you’re having trouble getting your site noticed by the search engines, you aren’t alone, and you may not be doing anything wrong, per se. It may be a matter of doing more of the right things than discovering some grievance you probably have not committed.

It used to surprise me that in the age of social media on the Web, and open resources such as blogs, that there are still people who need help figuring out how to get search engines to find their sites. It’s so easy to forget that there are new people on the Internet each and every day.

Then there’s the fact that for a given term, there are only 30 choice spots, with the majority of traffic going to the top five.

If you’re having problems getting search engines to notice your site, don’t despair. There are ways of being included in search engine databases until you can afford to have a professional do the job for you.

The first step to being indexed is getting spidered. When someone mentions the word “spider” in the context of search engines, they’re referring to the web robots that crawl the internet, traveling from link to link in their quest to find content suitable for inclusion.

So how do you get spidered?

Many people would say to submit your site to the search engines, but for about three years now, it has been my experience that direct submission should be the last thing you try rather than the first, and that some submission processes are better than others.

As far as search engines, you really should only bother with the top three or four at first, depending on your site. Web directories are a different story.

Step One: Find something to write/pod/vlog about that you really care about and can talk about over and over until the end of time as we know it.

Step Two: Start up a blog/podcast/vlog, put your ads in place, incorporate some light keyword research, and start cranking out content. Tip for Vloggers – Blip.TV pays cash money by inserting ads in/around your vid shows. Blogger tip – there’s more ways to monetize blogs than I’ll currently speak of. Maybe another day. Okay, I’ll make a show about it on our Blip channel, which I currently feel is hideous, so why did I just link to it?

Step Three: Have such extraordinary content that everyone in the free world links to you instead of painstakingly optimizing your site.

Step Four: Make super-phat big Dollas so you can pay someone else to do your SEO.

Another article that illustrates why you should get those images optimized. Works for Yahoo too.

Anyone can tell you that writing articles will help your search engine traffic if you do it correctly. It’s an easy concept to grasp, provided you have people to explain it to you properly. Personally, I only put my minor keywords in articles that are on other people’s sites – my major keywords are on the pages that the search engines land on.

With the method I’m about to show you, which is similar to the garden path method I showed you earlier, you’ll get an overview of the methods I use to get traffic that buys from my articles and artilcle series.
