I’ve known Shashi for so long in my web career that I can’t remember not knowing him, or at least knowing of him. And yet, I’d never been to his batcave before. So of course I couldn’t resist taking a million pictures, as the concept of “where the magic happens” fascinates me.

Also, the first picture I saw in his cube was of him dressed up like a gangsta rapper! I asked him about this and he muttered something about a contest. Therefore, the world must see this photo, so that everyone who ever meets him can ask the same question until we get a better answer. ;)

Anyway, below are the best photos in my collection from that day.

I’m going to miss having you at Web.com, Shashi. I kind of hate you a little bit for leaving, but I’m sure I’ll get over it if the drinks at the next Washington DC event are on you.

Inside The Network Solutions Building

I got to the meeting about an hour early on a windy morning. (Why was I there? I’ll come back to that at the end.) Before I went in, I took a quick snap of the Network Solutions building – one day it may say “Web.com”. Then it was off to the lobby.

We weren’t actually planning a stop here, but Shashi kindly volunteered to take me to Dulles so I could take the Washington Flyer home. He had a couple more things to do before leaving. I took this picture when he went to get some water.

When Shashi came back, he was in the spirit of my picture taking. Very accommodating  I would have punched me. But then, I don’t really like carbon-based life forms as much as he does.

As I sat waiting for him to finish, I sat opposite him in the visitor’s chair, and then I saw what was posted to his wall.

Okaaaaaay. “Shashi”, I said between giggles, “What is this photo about?”. He may have said something about a contest when I was ROTFLMAO.

As I wandered more, I found additional evidence of who admires Shashi and why. Awards, accolades, honors… maybe I shouldn’t have be trying to blackmail him into buying all my wine for the next year?

If you were a nosy visitor who was patient enough for him to open the closed compartment behind his desk, you’d find all these great books. (This is what’s behind that grey space directly behind his head in the pictures. There were at least several dozen more books out of sight.)

Eventually I had to stop taking pictures because Shashi threatened to have me escorted from the building. Here’s him looking up the number.

Oh and Here’s Why I was at the Local Web.com Office in Herndon on 2/20

I was invited to Herndon, Virginia to meet with the Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer of Web.com, which now owns Network Solutions. Her name is Roseann Duran, and we had a delightful in-person conversation, and took a few fun pictures. 
It was a great follow-up to the Twitter chat we had earlier in the month on the State of Women Business Owners with the President and CEO of NAWBO, Diane Tomb.
