Traffic Method #249 | Learn to Stumble

Hey, You're New Here! We love new people.

Please do us the honor of returning. You can subscribe by RSS feed, or get updates by email. We also welcome your feedback on the posted information. When filling out the form, don't forget to leave your link and your first name.

Why would I list StumbleUpon as its own traffic method, instead of under a general post about using social news or social bookmarking sites?

Because StumbleUpon is special. Leveraging its community aspect can get you hundreds of visitors in just days. While I’ve used StumbleUpon before, I didn’t realize the force of nature that a power stumbler wields. Andy Beard stumbled us and our referrers from StumbleUpon went from 500 to 1900+ within 36 hours. Nice bump. And a great deal of those folks stayed around.

Don’t know how StumbleUpon is special? Check out this video I got from the Scobleizer’s YouTube collection. From this past December, this video gives you the scoop in less than four minutes.

We sit down with StumbleUpon’s chief architect, Garrett Camp, and David Feller, VP of marketing, and talk about the success Stumbleupon has seen (about 1.5 million users in just a few months) as well as get a look at the new video version of Stumbleupon that opens tonight.

Okay, so you know what it is, how can you use it better?

Well, first, you can be my friend.

No, really. Part of the power in StumbleUpon is joining a community of people with like interests, so you can use it as a discovery tool. So be my StumbleUpon buddy, because I’m currently in the process of stumbling and reviewing all the sites of people who have elected to friend me back, and then all the people I friended who have not reciprocated. I’ll probably be done with the first round by this weekend.

Next, you can add my friends as fans. Don’t forget to stumble their sites and review them.

Lastly, stumble away, every day. Because the more you give, the more you’ll get in the end.

Here are some more StumbleUpon resources - a small sampling in comparison to the list we’re building for our FB Facing It group. If you’re a member of this invisible Facebook group, look out for our announcement about this in the next week.
