It’s time to share the power of openness with the world.
Open sharing, collaborating on projects, open networking, having an open door policy, participating in discussion groups with contributions, sharing policy, DoFollowing… how do these things generate interest in you, your business, and your site?
Is it true that the more you give, the more you get?
I’m putting this theory to the test at Facebook, and you can be part of the first traffic test I’ve done since last year, and the first totally open one ever!
Spread the word about yourself and the resources you find online. The group is completely open, so you can post videos, articles, photos, links, or whatever else you’d like, just keep it business casual.
This is an open call for you to increase your popularity through sharing. Will it work? You won’t know unless you join – that’s the whole point of our traffic test.
Here’s how to do it.
1- Join Facebook if you haven’t already. It’s fun, it’s free, it’ll take you about a minute, and you can completely opt out of email notifications if you like (I suggest leaving some intact if you’re not logging in daily, or you’ll be out of the loop).
2- Not required, but if you want to be able to talk to me privately, add me as a friend.
3- Join the Open for Web Business Group.
4- Most Important Step – Share Something. Anything.
It can be free advice from a blog post at your site.
It can be a link of a friend.
It can be a PDF file. You can share a video file of less than 15 minutes or 300mb (Facebook imposed limit). You can share a video from YouTube. Upload a link to your recorded teleseminar. Whatever. Just join the group and make one effort per day to share something you find interesting and useful. After about a week, will your traffic rise? It won’t cost you anything but ten minutes a day to find out.
