Traffic Thursdays | What is Social Presence Marketing?

Hey, You're New Here! We love new people.

Please do us the honor of returning. You can subscribe by RSS feed, or get updates by email. We also welcome your feedback on the posted information. When filling out the form, don't forget to leave your link and your first name.

Today, I’m going to catch up the Traffic Tips series with tips 229 - 235. I’ll be doing this every Traffic Thursday to compensate for the days that we skip Traffic Methods during the week, as obviously, we don’t publish one every day. This way, no matter what, you’ll have seven methods a week.

Before we get into that, we’re going to talk about …..

arms crossed Social Presence Marketing.

Yes, I just made that term up. What does it mean?

It’s a term to describe a new way of marketing that is emerging online, that partly mimics one that exists already offline. Social presence marketing is the activity of advertising or promotiong your products, services and brands by inserting your social presence in the pre-existing conversation around your target market, in a way that enhances and uplifts the dialogue, rather than intruding upon it.

Why is social presence marketing becoming important?

Because the social pendulum has long since shifted from hyperbole and larger than life fantasy to market products and services. Now, the mission is to show how your products, services, or information from your brand make your clients more productive, efficient, resilient, socially relevant, or in some other way enhanced in real ways that impact their lives.

Here’s the problem with traditional online marketing now. Everything is transparent.

Your hype machine is broken beyond repair. You must learn to live on the results you’ve created for people, not the pipe dreams you put in their heads. If you need unattainable dreams to sell a product, you don’t sell it, you improve it and you don’t release it until the promise it can fulfill has worth to someone.

You see, the world just keeps shrinking. In thirty seconds, anyone can go to Google, Facebook or Technorati and find out more about you, your company, what you sell, what your customer service is like, and who respects your opinion. If your social presence marketing isn’t up to par, you have no influence over what they’ll find. If it is, they’ll find your evangelists singing your praises.

I don’t have to tell you that the evangelists mean more money in your pocket than nothing special, and will be the tie-breaker if you have competition.

The influencers rule this world, and they always have. What has changed is that the influencer isn’t necessarily you, just because you deem yourself an expert.

Now, it can be, if you have

  • enough social exposure, particularly within social media,
  • enough social proof through better relationships with your clients - especially your evangelists
  • , and

  • enough follow-up that adds value to your client experience to continue to have them want to buy through you, even when it’s more expensive, even when they have other choices.

So how do you create a social presence? How do you market with it?

Coming up soon, stay tuned.
