Tim O’Reilly tells us. Why Him? They say he coined the phrase Web 2.0 for the first conference about it, ever, held in 2004, which is now known as the Web 2.0 Summit.
This issue is a bit controversial, but we’re going to sidestep that, and go by the common use of the phrase. For future reference, it’s not meant to be interchangeable with the terms “Social media networking” or “user-generated content” – because the swap-out isn’t even. (For example, Web Forums aren’t necessarily Web 2.0, but the software deploying it may be. Confused yet? That’s why we’re going with “common use”).
Before we start talking about the Social media aspect of web 2.0, it’s best we frame our discussion to eliminate confusion about the topic.
