My other “of the day” is an article that is also, admittedly, from way back, but I like what Pankaj Mohan had to say about the two methods he thought of to take advantage of the viral video trend.
He basically had two ideas.
- Use humorous videos that you didn’t create to enhance your content.
- Make how-to videos
I love the second idea. I’m already making how-to videos. So I make some free for advertising sake – not just on my site like I do now, but virally on some of these video sites. Smart.
The first idea, I’m not so jazzed about. I mean, okay, it’s cool to be able to embed someone else’s video into your site for something else your visitor can do while they’re browsing your site. But while they’re in my catalog, about to buy?
No. Video is purely a before or after activity when my prospect is turning into a buyer, unless I have a video to walk them through ordering or some such thing.
