There is public outcry at some sites like the UK’s The Register, about Google News “unfairly” including news of organizations they don’t agree with.
The answer? Well, I won’t tell you the biggest secret about this yet, because I’m still testing the results for an upcoming book.
But for now, a little reverse-engineering can do wonders, until you can figure out how to get your site or publication on the list of sites that Google pulls its news from directly.
See, Google has told us all which publications woudl get us into Google News – a search of your favorite keywords at their site will tell you, over the course of a week, which ones are the best to get into.
Of those, there is probably at least one that accepts articles, subscriber commentary, or will re-print your press release. Go to each link and write those companies down.
Submit your material to those companies – even if it costs you a few bucks to get them printed (i.e. if you have to be subscribed to a publication that costs $30 a year, it’s worth $2 – $10,000 of worth of free publicity. Bite the bullet.)
If you have any luck, your views will get printed. If not, check your optimization skilss and try again.
It seems that Google believes in equal time. So if you’re that concerned about bias coverage, then go get yours.
